March Break Is Here!

We made it to March Break! It was a busy week but now it's time for a well-deserved break. I was away Wednesday afternoon and Thursday at a conference but came back to some very exciting news for our class. A few weeks ago, I applied for a Technology and Pedagogy grant from the board. Out of 130 applicants, I was lucky to be one of the 30 teachers picked to receive one of the grants. As a result, our class will be getting lots of new technology to use out at some point in April. We will have to pass what we have on to other classes to use, but my grant includes 10 iPad minis for the students, an iPad Air for planning, 4 Chromebooks, and 2 tech bins to hold the iPads. I am so excited for the opportunity to implement this technology into all areas of the curriculum.

This week in language, we reviewed the "or" sound and spellings in the comptine "Météore". We also read the poem "Mars". In guided reading groups, most students are finished their written retells (or almost finished) and some have begun looking at descriptive text. In our guided writing groups, most have finished their posters and are now working on writing descriptions of animals in a table format.

We began our newest math unit on Wednesday. It encompasses a few curriculum expectations from measurement temperature, mass, and capacity, as well as money. I will be sending the last math unit rubric and the science rubric following the March Break.

Learning to weigh objects on a balance scale

In science, the grade 3s looked at muscular force. The grade 2s looked at solids.

In social studies, the grade 3s learned about the Niagara Peninsula and why it was a great area for growing fruit. The grade 2s completed activities about Nepal after looking at a slideshow of information about Nepal.

Some students are finished their pastel mugs. The rest will be finishing up the week following the March Break.

Have a great March Break with your families. I look forward to seeing all the students again following the break!
