Jumping, Cycling, and Lots of Rain

Another busy week...

In Language, we read "Larmes de crocodile" for our shared reading. We practised the "euse" sound in "La berceuse" and the "bl" sound in "Blaise". We have been doing lots of vocabulary development and comprehension strategies in guided reading groups. We are still working on activities with "avoir" and "ĂȘtre", choosing the right pronoun and singular and plural in guided writing groups.

In Math, we have been finishing up multiplication and division. We did a short lesson on transformations as we have done some activities throughout the year on this. We did a fun interactive activity that really helped the students understanding the difference between each type of transformation.

In Social Studies, we moved on to North America and have been learning about the United States. Next week we will finish up and move on to Canada where we will finish our trip around the world.

On Wednesday, we had two presenters from Cycle Kingston come into our class to do a presentation. I've listed some of the key things from it below.

Cycling Presention

Here are the things they went over with the class:
-proper protective equipment/helmet fit
-clothing
-ABCs before starting (air, brakes, chain)
-always bring a water bottle
-horns/bell
-lights: white in front, red in back
-driving on road, bike is a vehicle and must follow all of the same rules as a car
-driving on sidewalk when learning, must stop and let pedestrians go past
-hand signals to show drivers what you are doing/where you are going
-looking back to check what's behind you

On Thursday, we finally had a rain free day and were able to participate in Jump Rope for Heart activities. Our school surpassed our fundraising goal! Check out some of the activities in the photos below.

Next Wednesday is Primary Play Day. Please ensure that your child is wearing appropriate shoes and clothing for all of the activities. Also, they will need a hat and sunscreen.

We will be having a class picnic with Mme Lavoie's class on Tuesday, June 23, rain or shine. We will be going to the park in the afternoon. Please try to send a litterless lunch and a water bottle on that day. We will be doing fruit skewers that morning in class to take with us. Again, they will need appropriate clothing and shoes for an afternoon of play outside along with a had and sunscreen.
