In Language and Math, we are just finishing up everything that's unfinished. Those who are done are writing stories on chart paper together, on the computers, on iPads, or alone in their journals. Those who are done everything in Math are creating their own board games. They make a plan then create the board game using an element of probability.
In Social Studies, we did a follow-up to our farm visit by comparing dairy farms in early settler times to now. The students also looked at work in pioneer times then contrasted what they would have done as pioneer children with how they help out at home now. They also finished up the page on pioneer life that we looked at last week.
On Tuesday, we made butter in class. We used whipping cream and mason jars and shook the jars until it became whipped cream. Then we continued to shake until the butter and butter milk separated. The students tried the butter on some bread that I brought in. The buttermilk I saved for some at home baking.
Shake, shake, shake!

In Science, we did an experiment on soil, comparing three different unidentified soil samples. By adding water, the students were able to figure out what was in the soil. Then we looked at how air and water in soil affects roots.
