Fairy Tales and Apple Cake

This week in Language, we read "Le loup qui découvrait le pays des contes" for our shared reading. Loup was looking for a recipe to take to a party when he encountered a variety of characters from fairy tales. We made apple cake to go along with the recipe he found and made. Almost everyone tried it and most wanted seconds. We doubled the recipe and got some math in doubling the ingredient amounts.

In Math, we continued with our unit on addition and subtraction. We worked through a problem together to go over the problem solving process and strategies for solving problems.

In Science, we looked at static electricity. The students did a short experiment using small pieces of paper and a comb. We then discussed the difference between forces that require contact and forces that do not require contact.

In Social Studies, we finished comparing Kingston and Dryden. We made a slide for the smartboard together about why Kingston is important. On Friday, while I was away sick, the students looked at the populations of various Ontario cities and looked at the amount of parks and playgrounds in those cities.
