We Are Performance Artists in 2/3 FI

This week in language, we began reading "Le castor qui travaillait trop fort" for our read aloud. It is about a beaver who is careless of everything around him.

For our shared reading, we reviewed the "pl" sound in "À la plage!".  We also read "Le jardin de la sorcière" where we learned quite a bit of new vocabulary and used online dictionaries to find those words.

In guided reading, the students are finishing up reading informational texts. In guided writing, most have finished or are almost finished their short narratives. Next week we will begin working on tales as our next writing form to learn.

In math, we continued to practise comparing 3-d solids and how much detail to use. We began a new unit on fractions. Our new math centres are very hands-on activities where students are making and drawing fractions created with a variety of math manipulatives as well as Lego pieces. They are also learning about different ways to represent fractions from 1/2 to 1/10.

This week at Amherstview we had a visiting artist, Gary Raspberry, who did musical activities with the primary classes. He came to our class three different times to make music with the class. Today's session finished with the students recording the song "Pajamas".

On Monday, students from Ernestown Secondary will be performing a musical, "The Yard", in the afternoon for the primary students. The students at Amherstview have been asked to participate in one song, "In Our Garden". Our class will be taking the lead for this. We will be sitting up front for the performance. We have been practising all week. Parents are welcome to come watch the musical, which will begin at 1:45 pm. Please arrive early before classes get called down. A note went home today about the musical as well as the lyrics if the students wish to practise over the weekend.

The audio clips for the song with and without vocals are available for practise by following the following the following link and going to the page on the left side for "Audio Clips".

Have a great weekend and hopefully some will be able to come see the class perform during the musical on Monday!
