Holiday Concerts Galore, High School Band, and Pyjama Day

It was a very busy final week before the holiday break. We spent our class time doing Christmas around the world activities and finishing up unfinished math, science, and social studies work. Our words this week were all from different celebrations that we learned about over the past two weeks.

We learned about the Christmas and holiday traditions from 9 different countries: the United States, Russia, Italy, England, Australia, France, Germany, Mexico, and Canada. We made crafts and tried some foods that originated in those countries.

Making Russian dolls

La Befana

Italian ladyfingers

Surfing Santa snow globe

Shortbread cookies

Colourful Christmas trees

Some ginger snaps since gingerbread is from Germany

Mexican poinsettia
Some hot chocolate to drink since it originated in Mexico and South America (I thought Mexican hot chocolate might be too spicy for some!)

We had quite a few practises for the holiday concert, as well as the matinee and evening performances on Wednesday. (two matinees and two evening performances for those in the choir) The class did a fabulous job with the dance! I am very proud of all of them,

Friday was Pyjama Day. We watched "The Polar Express" in the gym.

Nothing like making some repairs to a stuffy during the movie. Teacher/Stuffy Medic!

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday with family and friends. See you all in 2017!
